Creake Abbey Studios was opened in 2003 by Diana and Anthony Scott. The converted barns are situated in a tranquil valley adjacent to the magnificent ruins of Creake Abbey, a former Augustinian priory turned abbey founded in 1206. Each studio encapsulates its owners natural talents. Shop for watercolours of beach huts and life by the sea, for bespoke jewellery created on site, for imported rugs and objects dart that make your home even more special. Also find modern painted furniture, French furniture and mirrors, antiques, ceramics, candles and Provencal goodies including salt, olive oils, garlic, honey, soaps and linens. In February 2010 the Studios welcomed Angela Le Strange Meakin with her shop, Potter and Dibble. Angela designs her own garden accessories as well as stocking a wide range of beautiful and useful tools, cards, plants, scented candles and other gifts with a gardening theme. Also new is Linda Black of Tidal Therapies offering a complete range of holistic treatments to locals and visitors from massage to Nordic Walking. Dont miss Tel Turnbull creating many kinds of clay pots, everything from Medieval bird houses to fluted vases with wonderful coloured glazes. If you have ever wanted to try your hand at the wheel you will find Tel to be an inspiring teacher. And last, but by no means least, two local mothers have joined us opening the first Bells and Whistles Childrenswear boutique. Bells and Whistles is a successful on line business and Kirstin and Eleanor are testing out traditional retail sales at the Studios. Come and find beautiful clothes and accessories for both girls and boys (Babies to 11 years), lines include Darcy Brown, Elephantito, Their Nibs and ilovegorgeous plus many more.
The Farmers Markets on the 1st Saturday of each month (9.30am 1pm) host around 30 producers selling everything from meat, vegetables, poultry, eggs, bread, puddings, cakes, locally brewed beer, chocolates, preserves and plants. Nominated as a finalist in the EDP Norfolk Food Awards 2007 the markets are going from strength to strength Studios are open Tuesday to Sunday from 11am to 4.30am in winter and from 10.30am to 5pm in summer. Open bank holiday Mondays. The ruins of Creake Abbey managed by English Heritage are open throughout the year and are free of charge. |
